Father John Misty - Greatish Hits: I Followed My Dreams And My Dreams Said To Crawl (2024)

Get Vinyl: Sub Pop Loser | Orange | Bluish | Black | Shipping Now

Let’s kick things off with Josh Tillman and his five-album-spanning “greatish hits” collection. It opens with “Real Love Baby,” a 2016 single that was originally meant for Lady Gaga — until the former Fleet Foxes drummer was too smitten to hand it over. Now thanks to TikTok, it’s his most popular track by a mile, and it recently got a joyful video from Instagram’s finest Eggs Tyrone (a must follow!).

The rest of the compilation is packed with fan favorites, but the pièce de résistance is his new track, “I Guess Time Just Makes Fools Of Us All.” Picture Leonard Cohen channeling Steely Dan on an almost nine-minute disco jam.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 Soundtrack

Get Vinyl: Red and Yellow Marble | Shipping August 23

If you were born in the ’80s, chances are you logged some serious hours on Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3. Widely regarded as one of the greatest PS2 games ever, it’s also famous for its gnarly soundtrack. Now, you can relive the glory days by spinning this bootleg vinyl, complete with a die-cut sticker sheet.

Wishy - Triple Seven

Get Vinyl: Tomato Red | Black | August 16 Release

Now let’s dive into some new releases, starting with one I’m particularly stoked about: Triple Seven, the debut album from Indianapolis rockers Wishy. They’ve dropped four singles so far, and every one is a hit.

With Kevin Krauter and Nina Pitchkites sharing vocal and songwriting duties, backed by shimmery, ’90s-inspired guitars, they’ve crafted some ridiculously catchy power pop. This one’s an easy blind buy based on the singles alone, and I can’t wait to spin the full album on my turntable.

Fontaines D.C. - Romance

Get Vinyl: Clear | Pink | Black | August 23 Release

Speaking of catchy, Fontaines D.C. are batting a thousand with their latest singles, each one a certified earworm. What’s wild is how each track manages to sound completely different, yet still unmistakably them. Grian Chatten and his Dublin lads are playing at a level most bands can only dream of.

Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk

Get Vinyl: Oceania | Cobalt | Sky Blue | Red | August 23 Release

I know I’m starting to sound like a broken record, but electro-duo Magdalena Bay has also hit the trifecta with their latest singles. The genre-hopping here is seriously impressive, with their signature synth-pop sound morphing into something more prog rock.

Their second album, Imaginal Disk, promises to make full use of its double vinyl, packing 15 tracks into a tight 53 minutes. Expect something as as ambitious as it is addictive.

illuminati hotties - POWER

Get Vinyl: Splatter | Morning Pure | Blue | Clear | August 23 Release

While

illuminati hotties

haven’t released an album since 2021, frontwoman Sarah Tudzin has been busy shaping some of your favorite music—engineering Weyes Blood’s And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow, producing boygenius’ The Record, and mixing the latest Cloud Nothings record, just to name a few of my favs.

The good news? She’s back with a third illuminati hotties album, and the singles are leaning more poppy than her usual punky edge. Fingers crossed we still get some classic IH freakouts like “MMMOOOAAAAAYAYA.”

Elliott Smith - XO (Deluxe)

Get Vinyl: Opaque Brown | Shipping Now

Interscope’s Vinyl Collective monthly record subscription has been impressive in its first year, kicking things off with Dr. Dre's The Chronic back in November and continuing to deliver solid picks. This month, they've outdone themselves again with the first-ever vinyl pressing of Elliott Smith’s XO (Deluxe). Limited to 4,000 individually numbered units on brown vinyl, this release features nine bonus tracks, including the Oscar-nominated “Miss Misery” from Good Will Hunting.

For a deeper dive on XO, check out Pitchfork’s excellent Sunday Review from last year—definitely worth a read.

Wayne Shorter - Juju

Get Vinyl: Black | August 16 Release

The Blue Note Classic Series is dropping one of my all-time favorite jazz records this week: Wayne Shorter’s Juju, freshly mastered from the original 1964 tapes.

1964 was a banner year for the saxophonist. He kicked things off performing in Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, then leveled up by joining the Miles Davis Quintet, helping to cement one of jazz’s most legendary line-ups. By August, he was back in the studio with a John Coltrane-approved trio—McCoy Tyner, Reggie Workman, and Elvin Jones to create Juju.

With Shorter’s passing earlier this year, this reissue is the perfect way to honor the jazz giant. Spin it loud, and thank me later.

Takanaka Masayoshi - Seychelles

Get Vinyl: Blue | August 16 Release

Japan’s guitar virtuoso Masayoshi Takanaka made a splash with his 1976 solo debut, and now this city pop masterpiece is getting the reissue it deserves. The album is a tropical groove fest, packed with the kind of lush, sun-soaked sounds that made Takanaka a legend in Japanese jazz fusion.

Alex Wharton of Abbey Road Studios has given Seychelles a fresh polish, alongside three other Takanaka essentials: An Insatiable High on yellow vinyl, Takanaka on red, and Super Takanaka Live! on clear vinyl.

Oasis - Definitely, Maybe

Get Vinyl: Strawberries and Cream | Tri Color in Color | August 30 Release

Oasis' iconic debut Definitely Maybe is celebrating its 30th anniversary in style, with fresh colorways and revamped album artwork. The record was a cultural explosion, becoming the fastest-selling debut in UK history.

While Nevermind captured the angst of ’90s America, Definitely Maybe was the anthem of ’90s Britain. With seven million copies sold worldwide and a spot as the second most-streamed album of the ’90s (right behind Oasis' own (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?), this album’s legacy is undeniable. If you don’t have it on your shelf yet, now’s the perfect time to fix that.

Hey friends, thanks for tuning in! We’d love to hear what you’ve been spinning lately, so drop your favs in the comments.

Just a quick note: we're still waiting to hear back from our latest vinyl giveaway winner. As soon as that’s sorted, we'll have all the details for you, hopefully later this week. Until then, happy collecting!
