Let's kick things off with one of my all-time favorites, which is receiving a colored vinyl release today. Brooklyn band
came to fame with 2009’s Hospice, a lyrically intense listen that showed off their many talents. However, it’s their 2011 follow-up, Burst Apart, that I keep coming back to. With its louder, fuller sound, upbeat guitars, soaring soundscapes, and frontman Peter Silberman's signature falsetto, this one stays in rotation well over a decade later.Charli XCX - Brat

And the Worst Album Cover of the Year Award goes to Charli XCX for Brat!
Charli’s sixth album is a club album, channeling the illegal London rave scene where she got her start performing as a teenager.

Goat Girl - Below the Waste

South London trio Goat Girl dive deeper into their quiet-loud dichotomy of delicate folk and expansive noise-rock on third album Below the Waste, produced by the band and John ‘Spud’ Murphy (black midi’s Cavalcade and Lankum’s False Lankum).
Good Looks - Lived Here for a While
Get Vinyl: Red
Shortly after Austin rock band Good Looks’ record release party for their debut album Bummer Year, their lead guitarist Jake Ames was struck by a car, fracturing his skull and tailbone. Thankfully, Ames made a full recovery, and the traumatic accident strengthened the band's bond. They channeled this renewed energy into their electric new album Lived Here For A While, produced by Dan Duszynski (who’ll come up again later in this article).
This is the only album on this list I’ve listened to so far, and you can expect it on the Album of the Year leaderboard shortly. So good!
NxWorries (Knxwledge & Anderson .Paak) - Why Lawd?
Get Vinyl: Gold and Blue Splatter | Gold Smoke | Black
Eight years after their fun debut Yes Lawd, producer Knxwledge and superstar Anderson .Paak return under their NxWorries moniker for Why Lawd?, featuring special guests Snoop Dogg, Thundercat, Earl Sweatshirt, H.E.R., and much more.
Peggy Gou - I Hear You
Get Vinyl: Blue with Slipmat | Blue | Black
South Korean-born DJ Peggy Gou hit the jackpot last year with the shamelessly mid-90’s “(It Goes Like) Nanana,” an insanely catchy mega-hit that racked up half a billion streams.
She is building off that success for her debut album I Hear You, which if the singles are any indiction, will be the most euphoric pop album of the summer.

Cola - The Gloss

Three years ago, Montreal post-punk band Ought broke up, and two members formed Cola, creating the underrated debut "Deep in View." Now, their second album "The Gloss" is out, with five of the ten singles already streaming, and it sounds like the Cola boys are 2 for 2!
The Decemberists - As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again
Get Vinyl: Tiger’s Eye | Wood | Fruit Punch | Olive Green | Black
The Decemberists are back with their long-awaited ninth album, their first in six years. The folk rockers team up with The Shins’ James Mercer on the first single, “Burial Ground,” a delightful slice of jangly guitar pop heaven.
The Great Gatsby Soundtrack
Get Vinyl: Gold Nugget
Director Baz Luhrmann and Jay Z transform the Jazz Age theme of F. Scott Fizgerald’s universe into a modern mix of 21st century rap, rock and electronica featuring new material and cover versions from a stacked lineup of Beyoncé, Andre 3000, Lana Del Rey, Florence + The Machine, The xx, Jack White, and many more. Pour some out for the poor soul who spent $325 on this last month.
Monsters of Folk - Monsters of Folk
Get Vinyl: Pink Swirl | Clear
Monsters of Folk was a one and done supergroup, consisting of Jim James (My Morning Jacket), M. Ward (She & Him), Conor Oberst, and Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes). This deluxe reissue features revised artwork, the original 15-song album, plus 5 unreleased tracks from 2012 intended for a never-finished second record.

Gracie Abrams - The Secret of Us
Get Vinyl: Purple (Signed) | Yellow (Signed) | Orange | Pink | Red
Gracie Abrams, daughter of J.J. Abrams, wrote her second album while opening for Taylor Swift on the highest grossing tour of all time. Grab an autographed vinyl and enjoy her addicting first single “Risk,” produced by The National founding member and Swift producer Aaron Dessner.

Peep these gorgeous splatter reissues of punk rocker Jeff Rosenstock’s latest four albums. Hellmode landed #9 on our 100 Best Records of 2023 list.
Kehlani - Crash

Kehlani says she’s in a happy place and wanted to make a joyful record full of life for her fourth album, Crash. The R&B singer just dropped the video for the first single “Next 2 U” and props for being one of the few artists to include a clear pro-Palestine stance in their art.
Queens of the Stone - Queens of the Stone Age
Get Vinyl: Black
Queens of the Stone Age's legendary 1998 debut, self-titled album is finally available again on vinyl, the first time released by Matador. This is the 2011 expanded edition that features three additional tracks.
POND - Stung!
Get Vinyl: Honey Splatter | Bee Splatter
Australian psych-rock band POND, perhaps best known as a frequent Tame Impala collaborator, return with their ten album Stung!, a 14-song double album. Stoked for this one!

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion

Predicted in this newsletter one year ago today, Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion will receive its first ever color vinyl pressing for its 15th anniversary. One of the best albums of the 2000s. Yoink!
Haitus Kaiyote - Love Heart Cheat Code

Australian jazz/funk band Hiatus Kaiyote is back to supply more dopamine with fourth album Love Heart Cheat Code, the follow-up to Mood Valiant, winner of the Best Independent Jazz Album at the AIR Awards and nominee for Best Progressive R&B Album at the Grammys.
Johnny Cash - Songwriter
Get Vinyl: Smoke | Black Ice and Bone Splatter | Clear
Songwriter is a collection of 11 previously unreleased recordings that the Man in Black demo-ed in 1993 that have been updated and produced by his son John Carter Cash.
Loma - How Will I Live Without A Body?
Get Vinyl: Transparent Smoke | Neon Orange
Emily Cross is the voice of Loma, but the group’s earthy, haunting sound is the work of Dan Duszynski and Jonathan Meiburg from indie veterans Shearwater. The trio is back from near breakup for their second album, featuring the mesmerizing first single, "How It Starts," with a captivating crescendo that I absolutely love.
I’d hop on this vinyl ASAP if interested, as it’s only $11.79 at Amazon, which has to be a price mistake.
Omar Apollo - God Said No
Get Vinyl: Coke Bottle | Sea Blue | Gold | Pink | Black Ice
God Said No is the upcoming second album from R&B artist Omar Apollo, who’s stated this album is a "reflection of [his] life for the past two years" that featured rapid success and torrid love affairs. “It doesn't feel like it's a bunch of songs put together," rather "a sequence that is made to be listened to front to back."
Washed Out - Notes From A Quiet Life
Get Vinyl: Honeydew Melon | Electric Blue | Pink
Chillwave godfather Ernest Greene aka Washed Out returns with more lush vibes in fifth album Notes From a Quiet Life via Sub Pop. This is the first album Greene has wholly self-produced.
