Yes, great stuff - it HAS been a good year! Don't sleep on Maisy Owen, Beck Zegans, Modern Woman, Sub*T, and Hannah Lew, among others. Paul McCartney, who dat?
The debut album is the only one where the artist has nothing to protect yet. No reputation, no formula, no audience to disappoint. That's why they hit different. The best ones feel like someone finally got to say the thing they'd been holding for years.
My New Band Believe are incredible. Obviously incredibly sad that Black Midi are over, and even sadder what happened to Matt - but the solo music these guys are putting out are incredible.
Love the Saya Gray album, but twas not her debut - had a full length in 2022 and eps in 2023 and 2024.
La Bande à bader - Pétale Défoule
And
SQ Mice - self titled
Are my two fave debuts this year
Lets go! Will spin both of those this weekend.. and strangely Saya Gray considers Saya her debut album. Either way, its a classic.
Some great shouts - Cardinals, Ovven, Mildred, TGAB. Would also throw out Mod Lang’s debut earlier this year. Really good power pop.
Thanks for stopping by Brian, will check it out
