Your Guide to Record Store Day 2025
Everything you need to know about Saturday's big day, including the vinyl I'm snagging.
Set your alarm and make room on your shelves — Record Store Day is back this Saturday, April 12! Vinyl collectors will flock to over a thousand indie record stores for a worldwide crate-digging frenzy.
Here’s the full list of Record Store Day releases; there’s 300+ new vinyl releases, broken up into three categories:
RSD Exclusive: Titles you’ll only find at indie shops.
RSD First: Debuts that will likely see future represses.
RSD Limited Run: Vinyl specific to a region or store, or press runs < /1000.
For a ballpark idea of what certain vinyl will cost, my local shop, the great Park Ave CDs in Orlando, has posted their prices.
If you can’t make it in person, don’t sweat it — many stores unload leftovers online the next day at 8 AM local time. Turn on notifications to my Twitter where I’ll be posting up-to-the-second finds.
This year’s RSD is extremely concert heavy — roughly 125 of the 300 vinyl are live performances! Scroll on to see what I’m excited about. Then get out there and support your local record shop — you never know what treasures you might find!
MJ Lenderman and The Wind - Live and Loose!
RSD First, Limited to /3600
Let’s kick things off with my personal favorite live album of the decade so far — MJ Lenderman’s Live and Loose!, released on vinyl for the first time.
Flanked by his crew The Wind, the then 24-year-old barrels through a beer-soaked, de facto greatest‑hits set that perfectly captures that sweaty, basement‑rock vibe that makes his shows feel like an all‑night house party.
Post Malone Tribute to Nirvana
RSD Exclusive, Limited to /17,000
Post Malone is this year's Record Store Day ambassador, and his unreleased April 2020 Nirvana tribute, featuring blink 182’s Travis Barker on drums, drops on vinyl for the first time.
This performance arrived when we were starved for entertainment (I was down bad gambling on marble races at this point), and Post's 14-song set (mostly deep cuts) delivered the raw catharsis we needed.
100% of the vinyl’s proceeds goes to MusiCares' Addiction Recovery / Mental Health division — making this release both a collector's item and a force for good.
Gorillaz - Demon Days Live from the Apollo Theater
RSD Exclusive, limited to /6500
Up next, we’ve got a front row ticket to Gorillaz history with Demon Days Live from the Apollo Theater. Captured in April 2006, this first-ever release bottles the electric energy of that night in Harlem. You can watch this performance on YouTube. Be sure to peep Simon Tong and Simon Jones from The Verve on electric guitars.
The Verve - Voyager 1
RSD First, limited to /3000
Speaking of The Verve, this Abbey Road remaster of Voyager 1 — the rare, band‑approved “pseudo‑bootleg” that only saw a few hundred copies in 1993 and often sells for $1000 — is the type of release that makes RSD special.
Conceived to introduce The Verve to America, it captures the band in raw, early‑flight form a year before A Storm in Heaven debuted. This fresh remaster brings out every shimmering guitar flourish and Richard Ashcroft’s haunting vocals, delivering a snapshot of The Verve on the cusp of greatness.
Françoise Hardy - En Vogue: Best Of 1962–1967
RSD First, limited to /2000
Multi-hyphenate Françoise Hardy’s signature breathy French cool shines in En Vogue: Best of 1962–1967, a 24‑track anthology of her Vogue‑era hits — collected together for the very first time. Her deadpan delivery defined early ’60s French pop and made her the voice of chic detachment.
Pressed on opaque red vinyl across two LPs, this set spans Hardy’s first six recording years. It unearths standout cuts from the often‑overlooked 1963 album and also features tracks with a pre‑Led Zeppelin Jimmy Page on guitar. Whether you’re discovering her for the first time or deepening your collection, this is the perfect introduction to Hardy’s formative era.
The Replacements - Tim 40th Anniversary
RSD Exclusive, Limited to /6000
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Replacements’ landmark fourth album Tim, we’ve got a purple double vinyl that pairs the 2023 remaster of the original mix with the game‑changing Ed Stasium remix from the Let It Bleed Edition box set. I’ll let Pitchfork’s Jeremy D. Larson — who awarded it a perfect 10 — explain why this is the definitive version of the album:
This unbelievable new remix of Tim doesn’t just challenge the notion that Let It Be was the Replacements at their peak, but usurps it to become the best and most definitive album in their catalog. Helmed by famed Ramones engineer Ed Stasium, the remix is jaw-dropping: Gone is Tim’s muddy sound, the tinny reverb on Chris Mars’ drums, and the thin low-end that masked Tommy Stinson’s bass. Every instrument is louder and closer, the mix is much more spread out, Westerberg’s sneakily complicated rhythm playing and chord voicing comes into sharp focus, and there are even a few extra Bob solos. […] Finally, no more of the obligatory caveats about production that have plagued the album for almost four decades.
Vince Guaraldi - It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown and Jazz Impressions of a Boy Named Charlie Brown
RSD Exclusives, Limited to /5000 and /3000
We’re blessed with two new Vince Guaraldi releases this year: It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown! and an expanded Jazz Impressions of a Boy Named Charlie Brown.
It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown!
This special 10″ Easter‑egg–shaped vinyl is limited to 5,000 numbered copies (1,000 each in pink, blue, green, yellow, or purple) and features eight tracks from Guaraldi’s 1974 soundtrack. Mixed from the original 2″ session tapes into 192 kHz/24‑bit masters, it’s perfect for Peanuts fans celebrating the strip’s 75th anniversary.
Jazz Impressions of a Boy Named Charlie Brown (Expanded Edition)
Pressed on sky‑blue vinyl, this RSD exclusive digs into the 1964 trio sessions with unreleased alternate takes of classics like “Linus and Lucy,” “Baseball Theme,” and the “Charlie Brown Theme.” It’s a fresh, impressionistic peek at the music that defined a generation — and sounds as breezy and bright as a spring morning.
Air - Moon Safari Live & Demos
RSD Exclusive, Limited to /2900
Air’s lounge-jazz masterpiece of a debut Moon Safari is one of my desert island records, so I’ll be all over this Live & Demos release featuring ten unique rarities, demo versions, and BBC live sessions to celebrate it’s 25th anniversary.
The Virgin Suicides Soundtrack
RSD Exclusive, limited to /5000
Air followed up their debut with an ethereal score for Sofia Coppola’s debut The Virgin Suicides, anchored by the unforgettable “Playground Love,” which cemented its dual legacy in film and music. The rest of the soundtrack is no slouch, with gems from Todd Rundgren, Heart, Al Green, and The Hollies. This anniversary edition splashes onto splatter‑color wax, boasts reimagined album artwork, includes a bonus 7-inch of Bread’s “Make It With You,” and features fresh liner notes from music supervisor Brian Reitzell.
CHVRCHES - Every Open Eye 10th Anniversary
RSD First, limited to /2500
CHVRCHES’ sophomore album Every Open Eye celebrates its 10th anniversary with a special edition: the original LP plus eleven bonus tracks — including five remixes from Four Tet, Big Wild, Gryffin, Keys n Krates, and Goldroom.
I’m a sucker for these edits — they absolutely crush, and Lauren Mayberry’s voice is tailor‑made for these club‑ready twists. I even curated a playlist of my favorite CHVRCHES remixes for this newsletter two years ago featuring four of the five remixes included — check it out below.
Jazz Dispensary: Night Lights
RSD Exclusive, Limited to /4000
I never miss a Jazz Dispensary RSD release, and Night Lights is no exception.
This new compilation, on smoke-hued blue vinyl to mirror the album’s nocturnal vibe, dips into Prestige’s Moodsville imprint, conjuring the warm comfort of diner coffee on a cold city night. Inside, you’ll find silky smooth late‑night grooves from multi‑instrumentalist Yusef Lateef, guitar wizard Kenny Burrell, sax titans Coleman Hawkins and Gene Ammons, and more.
I’ve only scratched the surface of this year’s RSD offerings — what’s on your list? Reply to this email or drop a comment on Substack and let us know what you’re hunting for this Saturday!
Need The Replacements and Post Malone.
My top 2: Post Malone and Royel Otis.
Also on my list: Johnny Marr, Camper Van Beethoven, The Cure picture disc, Morphine, Dead or Alive Youthquake remixes. Thinking about: Eddie Vedder, and the B-52s
