Art can inspire revolutions or suppress them by allowing the fervor to dissipate under the abstraction of metaphor.
The first step is to stop feeding the cultish engine of Celebrity. I think it’s the top method of non-violent manipulation. If I can convince you to associate yourself through the lens of a creator of art, I can manipulate you to do nearly anything.
People become horrible when they align to any cult of personality.
This is why I rarely mention the artist when I write critical analysis of the art. It keeps focus on the art itself. I have become sensitive to when conversations of art shift to the creator and I think, “This person worships the celebrity of the artist and isn’t interested in the impact of the art.”
I don’t know what to think anymore, a few years ago this would be dismissed as a conspiracy theory but, when we look at what’s happening today, and the far reaching hands become visible it appears the story posited here is perfectly feasible. Thanks for putting it all together!
I don't know whether to laugh, cry or just pretend I never read this. Very interesting regardless.
