Happy Fall, y’all. For this week’s newsletter, I’m hitting pause on vinyl to geek out over what’s shaping up to be an absolutely insane year in music—arguably the best of the decade, with a check-in on the Album of the Year Leaderboard and The Best Songs of 2024. But first, I made you a Fall Playlist.

Fall may be my favorite season; the air feels laced with nostalgia, the decaying leaves and crisp air sending you back to school days, past relationships, and random moments from childhood you didn’t know you’d forgotten.

To mark this season of reflection, I’ve updated the Patio Grooves playlist you may remember from Memorial Day Weekend with a seasonal refresh of upbeat tracks that still carry that melancholic and wistful tinge only autumn can serve up.

This 2.5-hour mix, available on Spotify and Apple Music, features 33 songs spanning six decades, consisting of classics and future classics, perfect for cool-weather patio hangs, lazy Sundays, or late-night drives down memory lane. Enjoy!

Let's take a fresh look at the ever-changing Album of the Year Leaderboard!

There’s a shakeup at the top of the chart, with MJ Lenderman’s Manning Fireworks claiming the #2 spot behind leader Vampire Weekend. Mannequin Pussy, Fontaines D.C., and Rosie Tucker round out the top five. MJ made his solo television debut earlier this week on The Tonight Show.
