Hey friends, I’ve got a quick one for you today as my family and I are on the mend in Orlando from Hurricane Milton. But this isn’t about me—it’s about Asheville, a place near and dear to my heart, which recently took a brutal hit from Hurricane Helene.

Asheville is like a second home to me. My grandparents had a cabin in the area, and every summer as a kid, I’d head to the Smoky Mountains, breathing in that crisp Carolina air. These days, I take my own family there, and we were just visiting a few weeks before Hurricane Helene tore through on September 27th.

Helene bulldozed through the Carolinas, with hundreds of lives lost and whole towns disappearing under water. Asheville wasn’t spared, slammed with an apocalyptic flood. Homes floated away in rivers that didn’t previously exist, waterlines were wrecked, and the area was left without the infrastructure to handle such devastation.
