Cappadonna - The Pillage (25th Anniversary)
Get Vinyl: Clear with Black Swirl
Cappadonna, originally absent from Wu-Tang Clan's debut due to incarceration, debuted on Ghostface's Ironman and shined on Wu-Tang Forever. The following year the spotlight was on Cappadonna for the release of his debut album The Pillage. With production overseen by RZA, The Pillage dropped on March 24th, 1998 and was certified Gold one month later.
Celebrating its 25th Anniversary, Get On Down is reissuing The Pillage for the first time since its original release —a limited edition double vinyl with clear and black swirl, capped at 2000 numbered copies.
Chromeo - Adult Contemporary
Get Vinyl: VMP Ruby | Picture Disc | Black
After a six-year hiatus, the Canadian funk masters Chromeo have made a grand return since their last album, Head Over Heels. The dynamic duo, "Dave 1" and "P-Thugg," renowned for their Hall & Oates-inspired grooves, have unveiled two instant classic singles already: "(I Don’t Need a) New Girl" and "Replacements," with a feature from La Roux.
Crawlers - The Mess We Seem to Make
Get Vinyl: Blue Splatter
The eagerly anticipated debut album from Crawlers, The Mess We Seem To Make, released via Interscope, showcases the Liverpool four-piece's eclectic alt-rock sound as they tackle the complexities of young adulthood in this day and age.
Deadmau5 - 4x4=12
Get Vinyl: Green
Deadmau5 is reissuing some of his harder-to-find physical albums and this week we have 4x4=12 featuring electro bangers like “Some Chords” and “Raise Your Weapon.”
Coincidentally I saw Deadmau5 this past weekend as part of a Mardi Gras celebration at 2 PM in the afternoon and had an absolute blast.
Grandaddy - Blue Wav
Get Vinyl: Blue
Jason Lytle’s Grandaddy returns with new album Blu Wav, which is a literal mash-up of “bluegrass” and “new wave.” Inspired while Lytle was driving through the Nevada desert and captivated by Patti Page's "Tennessee Waltz" on the radio, the album experiments with blending the traditional waltz's gentle rhythms and straightforward lyrics with the rich synthesizers of new wave. Blu Wav marries Grandaddy's signature lo-fi, psychedelic arrangements with Lytle's new venture into country. Lytle also promises plenty of pedal steel, which has seen a glorious resurgence lately.
IDLES - TANGK
Get Vinyl: Orange | Yellow | Black
British rockers IDLES are back with TANGK, which promises to be their most audacious project to date, highlighted by the lead single "DANCER" featuring LCD Soundsystem.
I’m excited for this one, especially with the new producers IDLES hooked up with: Radiohead’s Nigel Godrich and trap producer Kenny Beats.
Jennifer Lopez - This is Me… Now
Get Vinyl: Green with Black Splatter | Cloud Galaxy | Evergreen
Jenny from the block’s new album This is Me… Now is a first person account of Lopez’s love for Ben Affleck, and it’s the first of a three-part rollout, including an hourlong Amazon musical film and then a documentary about the making of the album and the film. The film and record drops Friday, and the documentary follows on February 27.
You can read more about it in this month’s Variety cover story, which features plenty of batshit anecdotes like this one:
I can’t imagine Affleck being happy about his private letters being shown on a documentary, so we’ll see how this all shakes out.
Laura Jane Grace - Hole in My Head
Get Vinyl: Pink with Purple and Blue Splatter | Pink & Black Splatter | Light Blue | Light Pink | Neon Violet | Black
Laura Jane Grace, founder of Against Me!, one of the best American punk bands of the last quarter-century, is preparing second solo album Hole in My Head. Moving away from the acoustic foundation of her earlier solo work, this album promises a robust live band sound, significantly shaped by the talents of Drive-By Truckers' bassist Matt Patton, who plays on numerous tracks.
Middle Kids - Faith Crisis Pt. 1
Get Vinyl: Blue and Yellow Cloudy | VMP Cloudy Orange | Transparent Yellow
Australia indie rock outfit Middle Kids are releasing their third album Faith Crisis Pt. 1 via Lucky Number Music. As the title suggests, the record themes will explore the role of belief in a society deprived of hope. Stoked for this one!
Paloma Faith - The Glorification of Sadness
Get Vinyl: Black
British singer Paloma Faith's forthcoming album, The Glorification of Sadness, is a super personal "divorce album without the divorce" as she recently separated from her partner of ten years; writing these songs helped capture her state of mind.
Sarah McLachlan - Fumbling Towards Ecstasy (30th Anniversary)
Get Vinyl: Coke Bottle Clear | Black
Lastly we have Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, the third album by Canada’s Sarah McLachlan, which has received a vinyl remaster for its 30th anniversary. Additionally, McLachlan will soon embark on a 30 city tour, playing the album in its entirety.
Hey thanks for reading! Sound off in the comments on what you’re interested in buying or streaming this week, and as always, rock on!
This is awesome. Finally a new Chromeo album! Curious about Sarah McLachlan’s reissue too. As for JLo, I’ll have to pass: I don’t know her (sorry, I had to! 🤣)
