If you’re craving some shoegaze with a twist, let me introduce you to Terraplana, a quartet from Curitiba, Brazil, who just dropped their sophomore album this week.
This band is all about swirling walls of noise, layered with dreamy male and female vocals sung entirely in Portuguese. Their sound is a hypnotic mix of Sonic Youth’s grit, Smashing Pumpkins’ raw energy, and Slowdive’s ethereal haze—a combo that feels familiar yet refreshingly new.
I’m aware that shoegaze fatigue is real, but Terraplana is worth breaking through the noise for. It’s the kind of album that proves there’s still plenty of magic left in the genre.
